Fitness Daydreams

I admit. I've been daydreaming again. I think for two reasons. First, I'm ridiculously swamped with work and really would rather do anything except analyze metrics or write/edit documents. Second, I reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally want to run-surf-spin-workout-doanything and just MOVE!! Sorry about that.

While I was all happy and hopeful a month ago about how my knee was recovering, my doctor seems to have other plans for me. While my physical and therapist and I were getting ready for me to try running at 8-weeks post-surgery, my doctor wants me to hold off until 5 months post-surgery. 5 MONTHS = END OF AUGUST!!

I know that this is probably the smartest thing for me to do, especially since my surgery was a revision of a previous reconstruction which means that it often takes longer to heal and regain strength and function. But it doesn't necessarily mean that I like the idea.

Yes, I'm annoyed but I'm trying not to think about it (so much). I'm trying to focus on other things that I can do to be active (which I haven't been so successful at lately - see Reason 1 above). That leaves daydreaming. While I've never had a bucket list before, I started creating a Fitness Bucket List pinboard on Pinterest. At first, I had a hard time coming up with things that I wanted to do, aside from getting barreled on a wave and running a sub-2 hour half marathon.

But then I started thinking a little harder. There are so many things that I still want to be able to experience. Yes, I want to conquer side crane pose and handstands in yoga. Yes, I want to try stand-up paddleboarding, Crossfit and heli-skiing. I even started imagining things like completing yoga teacher training and meeting and watching...er...swimming with Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. (It's a bucket list people!)

It's been a great distraction but most importantly, it's reminded me to dream. I realize that it's going to be a long road back, longer than I bargained for. But, I also know that there's a lot left that I want to conquer. I'm not ready to pack up my gym clothes just yet.

Do you have a fitness bucket list? What are some of the things that you dream of doing but haven't gotten around to yet? If you have a fitness bucket list pinboard on Pinterest, please link it up below! I'd love to see it. And come check out the rest of my fitness bucket list!

GREAT STUFF Christine! I know recovery is frustrating, but when you come back you are going to conquer your entire Fitness Bucketlist! I KNOW IT! So listen to your doc and listen to your body until then. Sending virtual recovery hugs from here! xo

I love your fitness bucket list, especially because there was barre listed :-) Let's see...on mine would be LEARN to swim. Yep. That's one of the biggest for me! And while end of August seems so far off, it'll be here before you know it. You are doing great at trying to just get through recovery and you are in the home stretch!!

Oh man! I'm sorry to hear about not running till August. I'm not running right now due to shin problems and it's KILLING me...but I don't think it will be 5 months (hopefully!). I don't have a fitness bucket list. Maybe i should start one!

Be SMART! You already know this. I don't know if your Dr or PT is right, maybe it's somewhere in the middle, maybe it's longer. But be very careful especially since this is round 2 for you.

Love your bucket list. DREAM. TRAIN. ACHIEVE.

My fear is that I'd want to do more than "run" with Michael Phelps.

I love your bucket list! It gave me ideas for my own, which I've only added a few things to: http://pinterest.com/livefromlq/fitfluential-fitness-bucket-list/

Sorry about having to wait longer to run. I know it's hard, but hopefully it will be all for the good when you finally get back to it.

(I wish comments had a "Like" button so I could like Cat's comment above :-))

I love your list! I keep seeing your pins pop up on Pinterest and they are such awesome goals! Yes, out the door to put the dreams in action for sure.

I've started on a Fitness Bucket List too and was feeling kind of at a dead end with it. You totally just reminded me of winter sports! I want to ski a double black diamond!

Yes! I think that I can definitely credit you and your sis for my interest in taking a barre class and for my constant craving for oatmeal :-) Wait! You spend all that lovely time at the lake and you can't swim?!? I think that should definitely be on your list! I know that August will be hear before I know it. I guess I'm afraid that it's going to be hard to stay motivated until then.

It's funny because I never thought that I was a "bucket list" kind of gal. Always seems silly to me but there was something about this that made me excited. I think that it is the combination of dreaming + goals + not able to be as active as I'd like that makes this little project resonate with me at this moment.

I love that you live in the moment! That's on my bucket list!!

Pinterest is a wee bit addicting at times. I actually kind of surprised myself with the yoga school one. I mean, I love yoga but never thought about doing a yoga teacher training course. I'd probably do it more so that I can learn more than necessarily teach but who knows! Going to check out your board now!

Really sorry to hear the knee will take longer than expected. That's got to be a tough pill to swallow. Wishing you the speediest recovery possible!

I actually used to swim at the same pool as Michael Phelps. He was often up on deck waiting to get in for his workout as mine was finishing up. Pretty cool stuff!

Ugh... so frustrating. I have a feeling you will be back better and stronger than ever! Love the idea of a fitness bucket list - and, I have been dying to try stand up paddle-boarding too! I'm sure I can think of a long list of to-do's, actually;)

At June 15, 2012 at 9:49 PM , Blogger Christine said...

Really? I don't know if I'd swim much knowing that Michael Phelps was hanging out on deck :-)
Thanks Amanda. It's been tough over the past couple of weeks but I'm coming around now. I know that I don't want to go through this again!! I appreciate your good thoughts.
